My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ginger arrived with a terrible wound on her neck (caused by a collar that was too small) and she was so scared...she trembled and would not even walk, we had to carry her in most cases. With the help of amazing staff and volunteers, she has been improving and healing. She`s still scared and getting used to a leash, she may try to flee/run when scared. But she`s healing, she looks beautiful, and she`s even been going on some full walks outside with no issues. She just needs some kind humans to go slowly with her and give her time/space to adjust. If you think you have the right, calm spot for her where you can work with her to help her relax and blossom even more, email adoption@orangecountync.gov. We know she`ll really benefit from being in a loving home.
If you`d like to help Ginger and other pets that enter the shelter with serious medical issues, please consider making a donation to the shelter. The Community Giving Fund is an easy way to donate online. Thank you!

Foster notes on Ginger:

`Ginger is so sweet! She is working through a lot of fear, but is gentle and kind to both humans and dogs. We went to Johnston Mill Preserve and got lots of good exercise out on the trails. Once we were moving in the woods, she was totally relaxed and really curious about our surroundings. She is working on trusting strangers, but loves the outdoors and would be an excellent adventure buddy!`

Additional adoption info

Please visit http://www.orangecountync.gov/287/Available-Pets if you have questions about available pets, adopting, or visiting our facility. You may also call 919-942-7387, option 3, to speak with a staff member at our adoption desk.
If the staff is unable to answer right away, please leave a clear message with your full name and contact number. Our staff responds to messages in the order they are received. Every effort will be made to respond to messages the same day, but it is possible that you may not receive a callback until the next business day due to the high volume of calls we often receive. See our operating hours on our website.

-Adopting-
Some animals can be taken home the same day they are adopted, but those adoptions must occur before a certain time of day and are dependent upon several factors. If you are interested in taking a pet home on the same day you adopt, please consult with the adoption desk to find out if that pet is able to go home right away. See more information on adoption and adoption fees on our website.
