My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Foster Update: 12/8/25 - Mona is a show-stopping, head-turning beauty with confidence to spare. This petite powerhouse has been through more than her share, so she can be a bit slow to warm up to new people. But once she knows youre one of the good ones, its all snuggles, sweetness, and pure devotion. Mona gets along wonderfully with other dogs of all shapes and sizes and thrives in social settings. Shes fully potty trained, has excellent recall, and is well-desensitized to busy city life. Whether shes on leash or off, Mona is an active, engaged gal who loves to explore the world by your side. Shes the kind of walking companion who doesnt just join you on the journeyshell walk right into your heart.   Original Bio : Mona was rescued from a tragic and traumatic backyard breeder situation and spent a year at the SPCA before coming to Wonder Dog! She's shown us that once comfortable and has her own space, she is affectionate with humans and likes to play with other dogs. She is currently settling in with her foster and we are learning more about her. We are SO glad we were able to rescue her and are excited to learn more about her and get her into her ideal forever home!! Please visit our website www.wonderdogrescue.org to apply and learn more about this amazing pet and to see other available dogs.

Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

When a party sees a dog they may like to adopt from our web page they submit the application to adopt. We also do mobile adoptions.

2.

Interview

Interview by phone or zoom, unless we are at a mobile.

3.

Meet the Pet

A meetup may result in an adoption. If so, paperwork is signed, and the adoption fee is paid.

4.

Take the Pet Home

We like to follow up and answer any questions that may pop up in the first month... and sometimes longer. We seek lifelong connections!

Additional adoption info

We adopt dogs to homes in Northern California. Very few exceptions are made, and we never ship dogs. We receive many wonderful applications from people in the Pacific Northwest, Canada and Southern California. The issue with long-distance placements is this: We have no reliable way of getting the dog back to us if the adoption falls through. For this reason we must deny these applicants.

Adopters will sign a contract stating that the dog is to be returned to rescue if they are unable to keep the animal. We will take a dog back at ANY time. It is our deep commitment to these animals that they not be returned to shelters. We will also provide you lifelong assistance.... Please contact us at any time with questions about health, nutrition and behavior. We'd rather meet up with you and do some needed training than to have you surrender the dog. Adoptions are a life-long commitment. We are here to help you fulfill the promise to your new dog.

Dog Adoption Fees

Questions about adoption fees are often the first we hear when speaking with potential adopters. We'd love to take a moment to break it down for you! Adoption fees can vary, depending on medical issues, age, breed and medical condition of the dog. Special exceptions are made for senior dogs and for families with special circumstances. Donations above the "fee" amount are considered tax-deductible by law.

Adoption fees for DOGS are a sliding scale, generally between $250 and $350. We will always try to lower the fee if you have special needs. PUPPIES and certain dogs may have higher adoption fees..... this is merely due to the costs associated with doing rescue.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

You can meet our available dogs by attending a mobile adoption. Mobiles are held at various locations, and run from noon until 3pm. It's always a good idea to submit an application in advance. You'll find that at https://wonderdogrescue.org/meet-our-dogs/

More about this rescue

Wonder Dog Rescue has a long history of rescuing dogs in need! Our founder, Linda Beenau, was introduced to rescue in 1992. She assisted Nancy Ford, a long-time Boston and Pug rescuer. Over time she formed Bay Area Boston Terrier Rescue. As time went on, the group grew, and began helping dogs of all sizes, shapes and breeds. Wonder Dog Rescue is the synthesis of this progression.

We are a dedicated volunteer group, serving the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, and rescuing dogs from all over Northern and Central California. Wonder Dog Rescue has saved blind and deaf dogs, puppies as young as two weeks and seniors as old as 15! We offer hospice to special needs and elderly dogs, caring for them until the end of their lives. Each animal has so much to offer… and we learn so much by opening our hearts to these deserving companions.

When a dog comes into rescue he or she is evaluated carefully. All dogs receive vaccinations and are spayed or neutered, and some dogs receive additional medical care or behavior modification. We work with each dog, giving them the love and structure they need to move onward. Dogs stay in foster homes until they are matched with their ideal family. We want these adoptions to be life long, and take this very seriously!

Volunteers help in the transporting of dogs from shelters, socializing & walking, bathing, fostering and assisting at mobiles. Email us if you have even two hours a week and want to make a real difference in these animals' lives.... you won't be sorry!
