My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BERGIE is a precious BLACK AND GRAY PERSIAN with big amber eyes. He is approximately 5 years old, is neutered, front-paw declawed, is up to date on vaccinations, tested negative for FeLV/FIV, and is microchipped. He weighs close to 12 lbs.

Bergie was surrendered to our organization by his owner because he was most likely bullied by their other older cat, and didn’t like the fact that there was a dog in the house either.

Bergie’s foster mom is very smitten with this sweet and soft fur boy. Despite the sometimes rather serious look on his adorable face, he is a trusting and gentle little lamb. As soon as he sees his foster mom, he ambles over for some face and head rubs and likes to hang out close by while she is around. During Yoga, he likes to supervise his foster mom to make sure that she does her poses correctly .

During the day, Bergie enjoys spending some time on the window sill so he can observe what is going on outside, or he just likes to hang out on his homemade kitty bed. He is one of those rare kitties that doesn’t seem to be at all interested in cat trees or cat beds. He does engage in a little play time when his foster mom swishes around DaBird or the Mink Wand toy, so she would encourage his future guardians to play with him a couple of times a day to keep him entertained and stimulated. He also occasionally bats around a spring toy on his own, but isn’t exactly a play monster.

When his foster mom sits on the couch to watch some TV or read a book, he loves to snuggle with her, making him a wonderful, soft and warm lap companion. Bergie came in very matted. His foster mom noticed that he didn’t appreciate being brushed, probably because the tight mats were hurting him, so we had him shaved under sedation. He is now sporting a fashionable lion cut, making him look like an adorable mini lion. His foster mom finds him to be an easy going, chill, and non-intrusive little cat.

As stated already, Bergie will need a home without any other pets now or in the future. Please do not apply for him if you plan on adding another pet to your home. In rescue we often find that many declawed cats do much better as an only pet. Therefore an adult-only and quiet home will be ideal for him. Older, respectful children should be fine.

Bergie had some urinary issues in the past, most likely caused by a dry food only diet in addition to the stress of the other animals. We did a complete urinalysis and x-rays for him to rule out bladder stones, which he doesn’t have. His foster mom has added daily portions of wet food, which he very much enjoys. Preference will be given to a home that will continue to offer him wet food, and also has experience with the coat maintenance of long haired cats. The last picture in his bio shows his full and glorious coat before he was shaved.
