Joy is a one-year-old Catahoula Leopard mix whose name couldn’t be more fitting—she’s a happy, affectionate girl who loves to be near her people. At 51 lbs, she’s known for following her people everywhere—whether that’s sitting on the bathroom rug to keep you company or sneaking in a few extra kisses when you least expect it.
She’s house trained and crate trained, though she takes a moment to settle in her crate. Joy prefers having her humans home but has shown she can be left uncrated for short periods of time once she settles in. She may bark or whine briefly when left, so she will need a home without shared walls (no townhomes/apartments).
Joy currently lives with two resident dogs and enjoys playing with them, though she can be a little bossy and is still learning manners. She hasn’t been around cats, so a proper introduction is recommended. Because she’s still young and bouncy, a home without small children (no kids under 13) will be required.
She adores fetch, loves to run in the yard, and can’t resist snuggle time when play is over. With a medium energy level, Joy enjoys daily walks or yard play and then happily crashes for long naps.

The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.
Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.
Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.
We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.
We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
