My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Trooper – The Sweet, Goofy Companion You’ve Been Waiting For!

If you’re looking for a loyal, fun-loving, and affectionate best friend, Trooper may be the perfect match! This handsome 3.5 year old boy has a big heart and a goofy personality that will keep you smiling every day.

Trooper is a medium-energy dog who loves going for walks, playing fetch, zooming around the yard, and then curling up on the couch for a cozy nap. He adores his plush toys (especially the ones he can toss around himself!) and enjoys being close to his people—he’s happiest when he can follow you from room to room, just to be near you.

Trooper is friendly with other dogs, though he prefers a slow introduction and time to warm up. He would do best in a home with older kids and would love a backyard where he can play and explore. He can be a little uncertain around toddlers but has never shown aggression—just a bit of shyness.

He’s currently learning the ropes of house training and leash manners, and he’s made great progress with structure and consistency. Trooper does best when he has access to a doggy door or regular potty breaks throughout the day. He’s not a fan of being crated for long periods, so a home where someone is around more often—or where he has a safe gated space—would be ideal.

Trooper is on daily medication for mild seizures, which are well-managed and don’t stop him from living a happy, active life. He takes his meds like a champ and enjoys his regular vet check-ins.

This sweet boy has a few quirks (he can be a bit mischievous if left alone too long and will occasionally indulge in a shoe or two!), but his loving nature and joyful spirit make up for it tenfold. Trooper would thrive in a calm, patient home—maybe with another friendly dog, older kids, or someone who works from home or enjoys spending time outdoors.

Once you earn his trust, Trooper will reward you with endless love, loyalty, and laughter. His goofy grin and gentle heart will absolutely steal yours. ❤️

Trooper’s Ideal Home:
- Older kids or adults only
- A yard or regular outdoor access
- Another friendly dog (optional but helpful!)
- Someone home more often than not
- Willing to continue gentle training and give him love and structure

If you’re ready to open your heart and home to this charming, silly, and devoted companion, Trooper is ready to meet you!

Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.
