Polo is what happens when you mix a giant puppy body with a permanent case of FOMO. This playful, energetic goofball lives for action — especially chasing balls… which he absolutely will not bring back. He prefers to sprint after them like an Olympic athlete and then look at you like, “Why would I pick that up? You have legs.” Polo is super friendly and loves people of all sizes — adults, kids, and most dogs are his jam. He’s housebroken, rides like a champ in the car, and takes toys very seriously. If there’s fun happening in the house, Polo needs to be in the middle of it. Closed doors are suspicious. Quiet rooms are unacceptable. Family time is mandatory.
Now, a couple of real-talk notes: Polo was surrendered for being aggressive with cats, so this big dude is looking for a cat-free home. He can also be a little selective with other dogs, so a meet & greet is always a good idea — he just wants to make sure the vibes are right! If you’re looking for a lovable, playful shadow who will chase balls, steal hearts, and insist on being included in literally everything you do, Polo is already warming up his zoomies just for you.

All shelter locations are conducting animal viewing and adoptions on a first come, first serve basis. We are not able to move a pet from one location to another for your viewing.
The adoption fee is waived for all available pets in care and in foster homes. Standard adoption practices will still be in place, including background checks.

The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department (AWD) expanded the shelter days of service to seven days a week with operational hours of 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and pet viewing from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m for both the east and west side shelter locations.
