They call me Max Goldman – you know, that’s one of those fellows from “Grumpy Old Men.” I’m not grumpy, at least not any more. Maybe I was at first. I came here with a whole lotta other cats from a home with too many animals. I was scared and in pain. I had bad teeth. But I went to a foster home where it’s quiet, and I get great care and loving attention. I had some more teeth pulled, so I only have a few left. I feel a bit better. I can be chatty, especially when I want food or brushing. I rub up against my foster mom when I’m brushed, even in the more sensitive back areas – tail, hind legs, and butt. I haven’t engaged in playing with toys, although I’ve appeared interested at times. During the day, I mostly sleep in my cat bed on the couch, or lounge on the cat tower where I can lie in the sun or watch the birds. Despite being quite skinny, I move around very well. When my foster mom tried to put me in a crate at night due to incontinence issues, I could move surprisingly fast trying to escape her! I have no problem jumping onto the couch, dining room chairs, or the cat condo. I am stronger than I look! I have consistently been eating Weruva Press Your Dinner Chicken Breast Dinner Pate (warmed to room temperature), and my incontinence issues have been improving. Yum! I like this food. I’m a lovable, affectionate mature guy. I’m not a geezer, though. I’m 12, but I do have some special needs, so please talk to an adoption counselor about that if you’re interested in adopting me. I will be staying in my foster home, so anyone interested in adopting me should call the shelter to make arrangements to meet me. If you’re a special person with a heart of gold who’s looking for a special cat, I’d love to be your golden boy, Max.
Adoption fee $50 + microchip fee $30 + tax

Paws and Claws Humane Society (PCHS) is a non-profit, mostly volunteer organization that rescues and shelters homeless cats and dogs until they can be adopted into their “forever” homes. We want our clients to understand that adopting and animal is a lifetime responsibility and commitment to that animal.
All prospective adopters must show (at the time of adoption) a valid drivers license or other acceptable identification to verify their name, address, and age. Adopters must be 18 yrs of age. Children under the age of 12 years old need to be present at time of viewing shelter cats or dogs.
After submitting an application, there is generally a processing period of 1-3 days in order to complete all pre-adoption checks and paperwork before an adopter may take possession of the animal.

More about this rescue
Paws and Claws Humane Society is committed to partnering with the community to shelter, protect, and seek adoptive homes for abandoned or lost companion animals.
We have served Southern Minnesota for over 30 years and we are the largest shelter in the 8 surrounding counties that does not limit the length of stay for the animals in its care.
Paws & Claws is funded completely on donations and fundraising events and receives no federal, state, county or city funds. We currently have nearly 900 dues paying members.
Paws & Claws has a community fund to help pay for the spaying and neutering of companion animals for those who cannot afford it.
We give over 40 tours and presentations annually, educating the public [including over 400 children] about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals to help control the pet population in Southern Minnesota.
We have over 110 families that participate in the Guardian Angel Program [sponsoring animals] each month.
Paws & Claws will take in an injured animal and get the emergency medical care that it requires.
Local veterinarians in and around Rochester help Paws & Claws by providing over 145 free spay or neuters each year.
In a typical year the shelter will facilitate adoptions and provide care for over 600 dogs and cats.
