Callie is a sweet, sensitive girl looking for a calm, quiet home where she can truly shine. She’s a one-person cat through and through—nervous with new people at first, but once she chooses you, she’s all in. With her person, Callie becomes an affectionate companion who loves pets, cozying up on the couch, and settling into full-on couch-potato mode. In her previous home, the other cat caused her a lot of stress, so she’s ready for a space that’s all her own. She’s also nervous around young children, so an adult-only or older-kid household will help her feel safe and confident. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving buddy who will curl up beside you every evening, Callie might be your perfect match
This cat has specific litterbox needs. When you bring this cat home they will need to be set up in a room by themselves. This cat will go home with a behavior plan that you will need to follow in order for them to use the litterbox reliably.
The cat you are adopting is very shy. Patience and a gentle approach will be necessary to form a bond and help this cat feel that they are safe in their new environment. This means that the cat is likely to not want to interact with you at first and will need time to settle in and relax. It is likely to take weeks to months for this cat to become comfortable in your home. Even once settled, they may always be a shy cat who runs from visitors.
In order to have the best chance at creating a lasting bond with your new cat, you must go at their pace. When you get home, this cat should be set up in one room of your home, with a door that will stay shut while the cat adjusts. They should be offered a variety of foods and plenty of appropriate hiding places to help them feel safe during this transition. The cat should not be let out of their room until they seem like they are making progress and seem to want to explore more of the house.

Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available cats in the shelter.
(Cats in foster care are not available for in-person visits.)
#2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD**
If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the cat first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a cat for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours.
**Holds are not available on Saturdays and during adoption events.

-spay/neuter
-rabies vaccine
-current distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian)
-FeLV/FIV blood test
-microchip implanted & registered to the adopter
-treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites
-veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin
-free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians
Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your new pet
