Maxton came to BENCHS from the Mankato Animal Impound as an unclaimed City of Mankato stray, and he has quickly shown us what a bright, animated boy he is. Estimated to be about 3½ (nearly 4) years old and weighing just over 50 lbs, he’s the perfect mix of youthful energy and grown-up charm.
This handsome guy is very smart — he already knows sit, shake, and high-five, and he’ll proudly show them off for a tasty treat. He’s incredibly food motivated, eager to learn, and would thrive with someone who enjoys continuing his training.
Maxton is affectionate and expressive, often leaning in for attention or chatting with you in his vocal, goofy way. He’s a dog with personality and heart, and he’ll keep you entertained every day.
He may be selective with other dogs, and we’re not sure how he feels about cats yet. We are recommending a home without very small children, simply because when he gets excited, he can take treats a bit rough — nothing a little polishing and consistency won’t help smooth out.
If you’re looking for a smart, fun, loving companion who’s ready to learn and bond deeply with his person, Maxton might be your boy. Come meet him and let him show you his high-five!

More about this shelter
BENCHS was established in 1969 in Mankato, MN.
We serve Southern MN to help with owner surrenders, stray and unclaimed animals at local impounds.
BENCHS also offers a Food Share Program to help families keep their pets in their homes if they are going through a temporary hardship. As long as we have available donated food, we can have these families come in 2x a month. We may require animals be on a plan to be spay/neutered to receive this help.
