My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Zara and Her Family

Zara’s journey to safety wasn’t easy. Pregnant and nearly full-term, she arrived at the St. Johns County Shelter scared, overwhelmed, and in need of a soft place to land. Thankfully, she was whisked into foster care with Small Lives Matter Kitten Rescue just in time — and only a day later, she welcomed three precious babies into the world.

Her foster mom lovingly described them at birth as “two black kittens and one white kitten,” but as they grew, each one blossomed into something wonderfully unique:

Zander – What started as a white male kitten slowly transformed into a stunning Chocolate Point Siamese with blue eyes. True to Siamese charm, he is affectionate, talkative, people-oriented, and happiest when snuggled up in your arms or chatting about his day.

Zaina – Once simply “the other female black kitten,” Zaina matured into a striking Tortoiseshell beauty. She’s your classic tortie girl: spirited, confident, full of personality, and always ready to let you know what she thinks. Loyal and observant, she forms deep bonds with her people.

Zayden – The sleek little shadow of the family, Zayden stayed a gorgeous glossy black. He’s energetic, social, and always the first to make new friends. Whether he’s chasing a toy or greeting visitors, he brings joy wherever he goes.

And then there’s Zara.

Despite her rough start, Zara is one of the sweetest, most nurturing momma cats we’ve ever met. While caring for her own kittens, she also formed a gentle little sisterhood with several shy young mothers who arrived around the same time. Zara rotates between hideaways and cozy beds, squeezing herself into covered nooks and condo cubbies just to comfort them. They adore her — and so do we.
Zara is tender, patient, and kind. She loves quiet companionship, gentle pets, and soft places to nap. She’s the kind of cat who brings warmth simply by being present.

If you’re looking for an incredibly loving momma who has a heart big enough to care for everyone around her, Zara is your girl. She’s ready for a forever home filled with safety, kindness, and all the comfort she’s always deserved.

Go meet their pets

We are a foster based rescue. Our kitties are raised in loving foster homes, so they are socialized, love people and have good potty habits. Some are already adjusted to busy households with dogs, other adult cats and children. Please send us an inquiry and we will schedule a meet and greet.

More about this rescue

Small Lives Matter Kitten Rescue

We are a foster based rescue providing home care havens for kittens in need.

We are a 501(c)3 charitable organization supported by a network of volunteer fosters. We provide urgent care to neonate and sick kittens in need of life saving support.
We provide a haven to kittens until they are thriving and ready for spay and neuter surgery and then adoption.

Kittens under eight weeks old are one of the most at-risk populations in the United States, being killed or allowed to die by the hundreds of thousands every year. Our vision is that all neonatal, sick and other at-risk kittens are given a chance to grow and thrive through life-saving fosters and then adoption. Join us in the fight to stop euthanasia of orphaned kittens and share our dream that one day animals will no longer be killed in America's shelters. We believe every life is important, no matter how small.

We need everyone's help with our mission. There are many ways you can help. Please donate, volunteer to foster or adopt today!!
