** Note: Currently, Hakumi is in Korea, but she will fly to LA once she’s adopted.
Background
akumi is a sweet and gentle girl who was rescued this past summer from a city pound in Miryang. Since then, she has been living happily with other dogs at our boarding house.
Personality & Socialization
With a medium energy level, Hakumi is gentle, sweet, and friendly. She greets shelter visitors warmly and quickly becomes comfortable around them. At first, she may approach slowly and gently rather than rushing in, but once she feels at ease, her playful and loving nature truly shines. Hakumi can be a bit shy in unfamiliar or stressful situations and prefers to quietly step away rather than confront them. She gets along well with other dogs, enjoys playing, and avoids bossy or dominant dogs. She does not like confrontation or conflict.
Behaviours
Hakumi enjoys companionship and gentle activities with other dogs. She also likes to relax and lounge. She takes bathroom breaks outside but will use indoor pads if needed. Hakumi rides in the car without big trouble and handles baths well. She is still learning leash walking, but in a family environment she follows her people closely. She has not shown any destructive behaviors and is generally quiet.
Health & Diet
When she was rescued, Hakumi had Hepatozoon, but she completed her treatment and is now healthy. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. She is dewormed and takes monthly parasite prevention. Hakumi is healthy and maintains a balanced weight on a regular diet. She eats dry food twice a day and has not shown any allergies.
Ideal Home
Hakumi would thrive in a loving home where she is cared for and not left alone for long hours. A person who works from home or is retired and can spend plenty of time with her would be ideal. Hakumi enjoys companionship and would flourish in a calm and caring environment where she can have moderate exercise, quiet affection, and consistency. Hakumi is a gentle soul who brings warmth wherever she goes. She is ready to open her heart to a forever family who will give her the love and security she truly deserves.

Free Korean Dogs is a registered charity founded in 2015 with the mission to rescue, rehabilitate and find forever-loving homes for dogs saved from the Korean dog meat trade.
We divide our mission across three basic pillars: rescue, adopt, and engage. Since 2015, we’ve made huge advances in all three areas, shutting down three dog meat farm operations, facilitating the adoption of 1,800 rescue dogs, and launching Freedom Walk, our annual event to raise public awareness about the Korean dog meat trade:
RESCUE
Our organization has made significant strides in rescuing dogs from the dog meat trade, high-kill shelters and other high-risk conditions in Korea. We shut down dog meat farms and liberated over 500 dogs from unbearable suffering and despair.
ADOPT
Through our unwavering commitment, we have found forever-loving homes for more than 1,800 dogs rescued from brutal circumstances. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to rehabilitate these animals and find them a new life filled with love and care.
ENGAGE
Our mission extends beyond rescue and adoption; we are dedicated to building a compassionate community. Through educational campaigns and events, we engage with individuals and organizations to create a cultural shift from cruelty to compassion.
