My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

From Hefner's previous owner:
Hefner has been one of the sweetest dogs you can ask for. Since the since the day we got him he has been a cuddle bomb and takes every opportunity to crawl into your lap. He does so by placing his big pittie head first then slithering the rest of his body after. He likes to lay down with his head on your chest as close to you as possible. He also loves to give kisses on your face. He is never sure if he is allowed on couches or the bed and will wait until he is asked. As he sleeps, he will either be the tiniest of beans or when he gets comfortable he will stretch out with his belly up and one paw in the air ready to ask a question or give a high five. If you sit in a chair for a while he will hang out with his head in your lap. He is one of those dogs who is happy to be with you no matter what.

Hefner loves toys and to play tug. He is gentle with people. He learned about fetch and became pretty good at bringing the ball back. He is so fast and does a funny hop bounce if he wants to play. Hefner is curious and will tilt his head to one side at anything he doesn’t understand. He is also super smart and very trainable. He walks well on leash and can sit and speak—sometimes he will do both hoping for a treat. He will come when called or whistled for (this needs practice still but he has been doing really well). He loves food. When he gets food in his bowl he runs as fast as he can and does a spin move to make sure you are still behind him before he goes in his crate to eat. He is crate trained and hangs out in there pretty well, if he can hear you though he will make noise. A fenced yard would make him the happiest. He hates baths but won't fight you over them, he'll just look at you sadly until you dry him off. He loves a car ride and is always excited to load up and go somewhere.

He is a really good dog he needs someone to match his high energy and someone who can afford the meds he needs to stay happy and healthy. He is a couch potato who also loves to run around, and then come home and snuggle up on the couch. We really hope someone can give him a better quality of life than we were able to.

Additional adoption info

Find the pet for you at the Adoption Center:
Angels of Assisi’s adoption center is open from 12-6pm, 7 days a week. Adoption Specialists and Volunteer Ambassadors are eager to help you find the pet that would fit best in your family.

Adoptable Pets in Foster Homes:
Some of our available pets are currently in foster homes. If an animal is currently in a foster home, it is noted in the animal's biography online. To meet a pet in foster care, please fill out a non-binding adoption application, and the foster parent will contact you to schedule a meet and greet once the application has been approved (generally within 24 hours).

Found the perfect addition to your family? Now what?
The next step is to fill out an adoption application. You can complete and application online (preferred) or stop by the adoption center to fill out a paper application. Adopters must be 18 years of age or older. If you rent your home, we will need to contact your landlord or see a copy of your lease to verify the pet policy. Most applications can be approved within 24-48 hours.

Taking Your New Pet Home
After paying the adoption fee and pending the approval of your application, you may take your new pet home immediately. Adoption fees may vary and can be found on our website at:
