My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Darien was brought in by a community member on November 1, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Darien! This little kitten is still learning how to interact with the world, which means they can be a bit shy when meeting new people. The key to Darien's heart is plenty of gentle, positive interactions and lots of patience while they settle in. Darien will need to start off in a small, quiet room where they can explore at their own pace. Because they're still building confidence, Darien will need a home without young children, and they will need to be adopted either with their littermate or into a home with another cat-social cat or kitten who can help show them the ropes and provide a sense of security. Just imagine the special bond you'll create as you help this sweet kitten come out of their shell! Don't forget to bring a cat carrier for a safe ride home!

Shy/Fearful Cat: Darien requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about them.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
