My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I’m Porter – And I’m Ready for My Happily Ever After!

Hello, world! My name is Porter, and I’m a little lady with a big heart looking for my forever home. I weigh about 15–18 pounds, and I might be some kind of Chihuahua mix (I like to think I’m a perfect blend of cute and cuddly!). My life hasn’t been easy, but things are looking up—and I’m hoping you’ll be the one to make my dreams come true.

My Story

I was picked up as a stray and taken to the pound. I waited there for over a month, hoping my people would come for me. Every day, I wagged my tail and looked at the door, but no one ever showed up. Maybe it was because I had what looked like an injured leg—I couldn’t put any weight on it, and I know that scared people away. But here’s the truth: I wasn’t broken. I was sick.

After some tests, the kind folks at Central Arizona Animal Rescue discovered I had Valley Fever. That’s why I limped and felt so tired. Valley Fever is a fungal infection that dogs (and even humans!) can get in the Southwest. It sounds scary, but it’s treatable! I’m on medication now, and guess what? I’m already feeling so much better. I’m starting to run, play, and enjoy life again. My future is bright—I just need someone to keep me on my meds and love me forever.

What’s Valley Fever?

Valley Fever happens when dogs inhale fungal spores from the soil. It can cause coughing, fever, weight loss, and sometimes joint pain—like what I had. The good news? With medication and regular vet checkups, most dogs recover and go on to live happy, healthy lives. I’m already improving every day, and I promise I’ll reward your care with endless love and loyalty.

Who Am I?

I’m a sweet, gentle girl who’s been through a lot. I can be a little shy with strangers at first—maybe because I was in pain for so long—but now that I’m feeling better, I love chin scratches and ear rubs. Those are my favorite! I’m also great with other dogs and love to play with them. If you have a pup at home, I’d be thrilled to have a buddy.

What Do I Need?

I’m spayed, current on all my vaccinations, and microchipped—so I’ll never get lost again. I just need a family who will keep me on my Valley Fever medication and give me the love I’ve been waiting for. I’m ready to go home today! A cozy bed, a few toys, and a heart full of kindness—that’s all I ask.

Why Choose Me?

Because I’m a fighter. I didn’t give up when life got hard, and now I’m ready to give you everything I’ve got. I’ll be your loyal companion, your snuggle buddy, and your reason to smile every single day. When you adopt me, you’re not just saving a dog—you’re giving me the second chance I deserve.

Want to Meet Me?
