My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Morti (short for Morticia) | Min Pin Mix Mix | Female | 1 year | 14lbs. | Fostered in Toronto |
Morti is truly a very special, little girl. A youngster, this Min Pin mix is 1 year old, and weighs only 14 lbs. She is a beautiful girl with the sweetest disposition. It is difficult to understand how such a precious pup and another dog were found fending for themselves on the streets.
When indoors, she stays close to her dog bed. She loves chew toys and treats. She is a work in progress. She is housebroken and gets along well with other dogs. She is a very timid dog and needs a patient adopter who will give her time to settle and get to know her. She will be a loyal companion to a special her special person.
She has been sleeping in her foster's bed, has a quick cuddle, then sleeps soundly through the night.
Morti loves the outside. When outside, she turns up her energy level and runs at top speed chasing any squirrels or birds who trespass into her yard. Morti enjoys taking in all the new smells outdoors but will need continued work on leash skills.
What are Morti's needs? She needs a secure, fenced yard in which to run and play. She could happily be an only pup or be with another young, playful dog. It is unknown how she feels about cats. She would be fine with older, respectful children.
Most importantly, she needs someone who is often home, someone who will enjoy her companionship and in time receiving the love she wants to give once she feels safe.
If you are looking for a new family member who is sure to provide love, fun and loyalty, please consider Morti.

Additional adoption info

Welcome!

By adopting, you will effectively be saving 3 dogs' lives. Adopting a dog from JRNC means an open space for a new one at a JRNC foster home; and fostering a new dog means that there will be a new space available for a dog at an affiliate shelter.

Although Jack Russell is in our name, many of the dogs JRNC rescues are small mixed breed dogs. The dogs JRNC rescue often come from puppy mill seizures or high-kill shelters that euthanize dogs who are not quickly adopted.

Adoption Fees:
Puppies (12 months and under): $475
Adult dogs (1-9 years): $400
Senior dogs (10+ years): $300

All dogs available for adoption are spayed/neutered (if not old enough, arrangements will be made), and have all up-to-date vaccinations.

It is the mission of the Jack Russell Network Canada, Inc. ("Jack Russell Network Canada", "JRNC") to provide temporary shelter, veterinary medical care and other care for stray, abandoned, abused, injured, neglected and surrendered Jack Russell Terriers (JRTs, JRT crosses and similar terriers) in need of human assistance and care, for finding appropriate new homes for the dogs, and to promote the well-being of Jack Russell Terriers in general and to encourage the spaying and neutering, as well as the identification and registration of Jack Russell Terriers and of other domestic pets in general.

a) Dogs may be adopted by persons over the age of 18 years, are resident in any Province of Canada who have completed a satisfactory telephone interview, received positive veterinarian and reference checks and have had a home visit with a positive recommendation;

b) Dogs may be adopted by individuals or families living in owner occupied homes including condominiums and rented homes including apartments subject to the approval of their landlord;

c) Dogs may be adopted by families with children 4 years and older. Exceptions may be made where the adopter has children under the age of 4, has previously owned terriers, understands their temperament and is experienced in their handling and the terrier has been exposed to small children in the past;

d) That, to the satisfaction of the dog’s foster and the Home Visitor, the Applicant has considered the commitment required to care for a dog for its entire life, which could exceed 15 years;

e) That the Applicant has considered:

i) That the financial commitment necessary to properly feed, house and provide adequate veterinary care for a pet can be expensive;

ii) The possibilities of emergency veterinary costs arising and has a plan in place to deal with such situations and that they realise that, as dogs age, their veterinary care requirements may grow, and the costs may increase accordingly;

f) Has a current veterinarian, a history with a veterinarian or have access that can be verified;

g) That to the satisfaction of the Home Visitor,

i) Everyone in the home is interested and excited about adopting rescue dogs including all children (if any);

ii) Children (if any) must be present at the meet & greet and must be seen to interact with dogs in the home, i.e. pet the dog, give the dog treats. If the dog shows signs of being scared or of aggression during the interaction the family is probably not a good fit as a foster family. If the children are not present, a second meet & greet must be scheduled;

iii. The Applicant can demonstrate that he/she is knowledgeable about terriers and understand their temperament and personality;

iv. The Applicant has enough free time each day to devote to feeding, exercising and interacting with a dog;

v. the Applicant has the patience necessary to train and rehabilitate a rescued dog and that they understand that the transition for these dogs into new homes can take time and that they may have to house train the dog;

vi. the home environment is right for a terrier;

vii. that the Applicant is willing and able to keep JRNC updated on the dog’s progress by sharing pictures, videos and information via email or social media
