My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

p>How this pet arrived:
Clam Poppa was brought in by a community member on November 12, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Say hello to Clam Poppa! She's a red-eared slider with a mellow personality and a curious streak - always ready for a good bask in the sun or a slow cruise through the water. As an invasive species in California, Clam Poppa can't be released into the wild, so she's looking for a safe, secure place to settle in and do what she does best: relax, explore, and live the slow life. She may not be fast, but don't let that fool you - this girl's got wanderlust, so her setup needs to be escape-proof. Whether she's lounging on a basking spot or gliding gracefully through the water, Clam Poppa enjoys the simple pleasures. Her ideal setup? A predator-proof outdoor pond with plenty of space to swim, bask, and explore. A natural, bioactive system or strong filtration is a must to keep the water clean and safe. If pond life isn't possible, a spacious indoor tank (100+ gallons) can work just fine, as long as it's secure and enriched for her needs. Clam Poppa munches happily on turtle pellets and an omnivore-friendly mix of fresh foods. If you've got the space, the setup, and a soft spot for slow-but-steady sweethearts, Clam Poppa might just be your perfect shelled sidekick! Don't forget to bring a carrier or secure box for a safe ride home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
