Rowdy – Playful, Loyal, and Ready to Love His Forever Family

Rowdy is a charming 8 year old adult pup with a joyful spirit and a deep appreciation for comfort, closeness, and adventure. He’s crate trained and happily settles into his pen with a simple “go to bed,” especially if he knows a small reward is coming his way.

House training is still in progress — he hasn’t quite learned how to signal when he needs to go out.  But he responds beautifully to outdoor praise and is making gradual improvements.

Rowdy has been learning leash manners and is showing promising progress. He loves free play in the yard or a relaxing stroller ride.  With a patient adopter, he’ll be a solid walker in no time.

He’s shy with new people at first, but once in your arms, Rowdy transforms into a confident, affectionate little guy. When he met new family members on a beach trip, he warmed up immediately and spent the day enjoying snuggles. His behavior with other dogs is similar — timid initially, but with the potential to make canine friends through gentle introduction.

Quiet by default, Rowdy occasionally barks when startled. Apartment life would suit him fine, and he’s perfectly capable of being an only dog. His energy level sits at a lively moderate — he loves to play and roam outdoors with his buddy Mary Jane, and go on long walks, but he’s equally thrilled to curl up on a warm lap.

Why adopt Rowdy? Because he’s irresistibly cute, affectionate, and fun-loving. He adores being outside, loves riding in a stroller, and would thrive tagging along to festivals, patios, or just cozying up at home. He’s cheerful, loyal, and greets each morning with pure happiness — the perfect companion for someone wanting a sweet adult dog who gives his whole heart.

EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:   Rowdy's owner passed away and he has come to BFPA to find his new home.

Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  Applicants ideally should live no more than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore prefer to adopt locally in the Cary NC area.  For the perfect home for Rowdy, we may consider a distance a bit further.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptions require submission of an application which is processed and and must be approved by our adoption coordinator. Potential adopters then take the animal on a trial (minimum of 2 weeks) before the adoption is finalized. This helps to ensure a good fit between the adopting family and the animal. All animals must be up to date on all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, and microchipped before the adoption can be finalized. Current adoption fees can be found on our website.

More about this rescue

Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA) is a no-kill animal rescue organization based in central North Carolina. BFPA has no building, office, or shelter. We are an all-foster network committed to helping dogs and cats in need of homes. Individual donations are our most important source of income as we receive no public funding.

Our purpose is to provide medical assistance, foster homes, and adoption services to previously lost, abandoned, abused, or neglected animals in Wake County, NC and the surrounding counties. Our mission is to educate this disposable society in which we live that every life should be valued and cherished and is directly linked to human responsibility and commitment.

Almost all the animals we rescue require immediate medical attention. BFPA never turns away or euthanizes an animal because of the expense involved in returning them to good health. All our rescued animals are evaluated for temperament, examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, microchipped (if possible) and sterilized, if age appropriate. Cats and dogs receive monthly flea/tick preventative and dogs also receive monthly heartworm preventative.

The most important ingredients we provide to these animals are loving care and a safe haven -- something most of them have never experienced. These cats and dogs live in volunteer foster homes until we find them a loving permanent home, however long it takes. We match these precious beings to a single, couple or family who understand cats and dogs should be full participating members of the family. Our hope is that these animals never have to experience being unloved again.

Since our beginning, BFPA has rescued and placed thousands of cats and dogs into their forever homes.

BFPA was created in 1998 by two Raleigh-area women who had volunteered with other established rescues in the Triangle. Their dedication to help homeless dogs and cats has led to an organization that has grown to over 225 volunteers strong.

BFPA received 501(c)(3) status in 1999.
