My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Baekya

Age: 4 years

Sex: Spayed Female

Spayed: Yes

Breed: Jindo mix

Color: White

Weight: 17kg

Height (shoulder): 52cm

Rescue Story

Baekya was reported and taken into a city shelter in July 2024. She remained there for a full year until this past summer, when she was rescued just before a mass euthanasia. She has been adjusting beautifully in safety and is now ready for her forever home.

‍‍ Socialization with People

Baekya is gentle, polite, and easy to handle.

She allows strangers to pet her and will lean her body to show trust, though she doesn’t show much interest in new people at first. After about a day of becoming familiar, she begins approaching on her own for affection and pets.

She is comfortable with both women and men. When a person tries to hold her entire body all at once she may tense up, but she can be picked up with arms under her belly without any problem.

She has not lived with children, but given her calm and soft nature, she is expected to do well with respectful kids.

Socialization with Dogs

Baekya has a peaceful, stable temperament and gets along well with other dogs. She shows no aggression or competitiveness and coexists comfortably even in a group.

She prefers independent, relaxed time over high-energy play and is not the type to join in rough or overly enthusiastic interactions.

If another dog approaches too intensely, she can communicate healthy boundaries by stepping away or signaling discomfort.

She’s also very mature around small dogs—she doesn’t overreact or become overly focused, simply lets them be.

Socialization with Cats

She has not directly met or lived with cats, but cat-testing can be arranged.

Energy Level

Low to moderate.

She enjoys her walks and outdoor time, but she doesn’t stay excited for long and transitions smoothly into rest mode.

Indoors, she is calm, steady, and easy to have around.

Walking

She may pull a bit on the leash, but overall follows her handler well. She loves sniffing, so her walks often include stop-and-go moments.

Other Behaviors

• No resource guarding toward people or dogs

• Has a healthy appetite

• When crated or kenneled, she may bark briefly asking to come out but settles down quickly

• Currently potties outdoors

Baekya is a gentle, steady, and mature girl who would thrive in a calm and loving home. She’s ready for a peaceful life where she can finally feel safe and cherished.

Apply to foster or adopt to show her how beautiful the world can be.

More about this rescue

Adopt Korean Rescue is a volunteer-based federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted dogs in South Korea find a new home in Canada.

We love Korean dogs. Many of them live in chains, give birth on the side of the road, or wander around with their pups. Some of them get caught and end up at dog meat farms or high-kill shelters in South Korea. They luckily meet us just before euthanasia or after many years of living in dog meat farms. We exist to hold their paws and help them find a forever home in Canada full of joy and happiness.

Our dog rescue work depends on our flight volunteers. They help us safely bring our dogs from Korea to Vancouver or Toronto airports, where the dogs will find loving forever or foster homes.
