My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I’m Doormat 🖤🤍🐾
I’m a one-year-old black-and-white long-haired boy with a soft, fluffy coat and a gentle, quiet personality. I can be a little shy at first, but once I start to feel safe, my true charm comes through — especially if you have a brush nearby. Being brushed is my absolute favorite, and it’s the fastest way to win my trust and my heart.

I enjoy calm, peaceful moments and like to take my time getting comfortable in new situations. As I warm up, I’ll stay close, soak up gentle affection, and show off just how pretty I really am. My beautiful long fur might catch your eye, but it’s my sweet nature that makes me so special.

If you’re looking for a soft-hearted companion who loves to be pampered and will flourish with patience and kindness, I think we’d make a wonderful match. 🐾An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $200.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.
Cats and kittens are a donation of choice.

More about this shelter

At DeKalb Humane Society, we are passionate about finding forever homes for the pets in our care. Whether they are cats, dogs, or other furry friends, our mission is to provide them with a loving and nurturing environment.

We also believe in the importance of education about responsible pet ownership. We strive to educate our community about pet welfare, the benefits of spaying/neutering, and the prevention of animal abuse and neglect.

By adopting a pet from us, you are not only gaining a lifetime companion, but you are also contributing to our cause and helping us raise awareness. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these innocent animals.

The DeKalb Humane Society filed for our Certificate of Incorporation on December 23, 1975 and we were granted 501(c)3 status in March of 1976. We are committed to being a no-kill shelter and serving the DeKalb County area.
