NIKO NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Come meet Niko and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (Dec. 14th) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Kensington (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)!

Name:    Niko           Best Guess for Breed:  Lab and hound mix

Best Guess for Age:  5 months as of 12/1/25           SEX:  Male

Estimated Weight (puppies' weights change quickly!):    21.7 lbs as 12/1/25

Gets Along With:        Most puppies are in the prime of their socialization window and will do well with other dogs, cats and kids so long as they receive patience and proper training.

Currently Living at: DC area foster home

Special Adoption Considerations:

Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Niko would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure he can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes.

Puppies under 6 months of age need to have multiple potty breaks/exercise throughout the day. Potential adopters with a standard 8-hour workday must be willing to make arrangements to meet the needs of their puppy.

Niko is Looking For:   His forever home! Niko is a sato from Puerto Rico who can't wait to find his forever home in the DC area. He wants what all puppies want - play time, snuggles, and world exploration! Making pup pals is high on his wish list, and he'd like to go to puppy school too, so he can learn to be the bestest boy.

Most of all, though, he wants to be safe and loved for all his days, to know where he belongs. What do you say? Is that with you?

What My Foster Says About Me: Niko does well in his crate and lets you know he is ready to come out when we get home. He is making progress with his potty training. He is getting used to walking on a lead and loves walks. Niko is a toy nester and loves his bones the best. He does know sit and has learned to sit for his food.

He loves to play with dogs and it really doesn’t matter the size, he almost prefers the bigger ones. He is a typical puppy and learning play manners. Loves, loves, loves to cuddle. He is an all around great puppy with a big personality.

Your new puppy will need to work on their house training and will also need to go to obedience school so they can grow into a well-socialized dog!

TO ADOPT:       The adoption fee for this puppy is $485, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Go meet their pets

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
