My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Mayor, a 2 month old Border Collie mix puppy with big leadership potential and an even bigger heart. He’s playful, social, relaxed, and absolutely thriving in foster care. Mayor spends his days hopping after his resident dog sibling, snuggling in close for naps, and tagging along in a tote bag like the tiniest public official doing neighborhood rounds. At this age, everything is new and exciting to Mayor! Toys that squeak, toys that crinkle, meeting new people, exploring new spaces, and trying to chew haha. He’s curious, fearless with other dogs (even much bigger ones), and beyond sweet when held. He’s already showing great early manners: he sleeps through the night in his crate, is doing well with wee-wee pads, and responds to his name, “come here,” and sometimes even “no.” Mayor loves people, loves dogs, and loves being part of the action. He rarely chooses to be alone, he’d much rather curl up next to you or his foster dog sibling after a busy play session. He’s still very much a baby, learning basic commands, and how to navigate the world one tiny hop at a time. But his confidence, friendliness, and enthusiasm are already winning hearts everywhere he goes!

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

The first step of the adoption process is to complete an adoption application in full at www.rescuecity.nyc. All of our dogs are in foster homes throughout the city. We do not have a physical location where we keep dogs.

More about this rescue

Rescue City is a no-kill, non-profit1 pet rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption organization. Our team of dedicated volunteers is based in Brooklyn, NY and serves the NYC metro and surrounding areas.

Our organization’s motto is: There’s a person for every dog, and there’s a dog for every person…it’s just a matter of time. This applies whether you are looking to adopt a pet, or would like to make a positive impact on the lives of animals. At Rescue City we believe it is our moral responsibility to defend the lives of abused, abandoned, and neglected animals.
We take on helpless stray and surrendered animals, as well as those at the top of the euthanasia list at local and international shelters. We place our rescues in nurturing foster homes while they rebuild their lives through physical and mental rehabilitation. Following a thorough – but hassle free – adoption process, our Rescues are placed in loving, responsible, and committed permanent homes. Every rescue is fully vetted and altered, micro-chipped, and vaccinated upon adoption. Our commitment to our rescues does not stop once the adoption paperwork is signed. We stress the importance of responsible pet ownership, and we educate our Fosters, Adopters, and community on what it means to be a good pet owner.
