Overview

Looking for a beautiful, devoted soul who wants nothing more than to be your constant companion? Daisy is that girl.

Daisy is a 12-year-old red dachshund weighing just over 9 lbs. She was surrendered by her previous owner and has completely transformed in her foster home, where she’s discovered the joys of yard time, freedom to roam, and all the cuddles she could want.

Environment

Daisy is the ultimate companion dog who will happily stay snuggled beside you all day long, giving sweet kisses and soaking up your love. She’s thriving without a crate and absolutely adores having yard access—she loves exploring, sniffing all the interesting smells, and taking her time investigating her surroundings. Her human should be attentive to her potty cues, and reusable pee pads can be put out at night as backup. She enjoys walks and is learning her leash skills. Daisy loves being wherever her people are, and when left inside while her humans are outside, she’ll let you know she wants to join you. She does best with someone who’s home most of the time and can give her the companionship she craves.

Pets & People

Daisy starts out cautious with new people but warms up beautifully once she realizes she’s safe—then she loves any and all attention. She’s wonderfully calm and accepting with other dogs, showing a passive and curious demeanor. At mealtime, she’s a perfect lady—her foster feeds four dogs at once and Daisy politely eats her own food without bothering the others. She’s a quick learner too—when she’s been caught digging (those yard smells are just so intoxicating after her previous indoor life!), she stops immediately when redirected.

Health

Daisy has manageable skin allergies that respond well to fish oil and occasional Benadryl when she’s itchy. She also takes glucosamine to keep her senior joints comfortable and mobile.

Location

Daisy is available for adoption from Chocowinity, NC and she rides well in the car. She may be a little nervous at first but settles right down next to her human for the journey. Please email msbakeragc@gmail.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Daisy is $250.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Go meet their pets

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
