Overview

Meet Roscoe, a gentle old soul who’s ready to bloom in a patient, loving home where he can relax and be himself.

Roscoe is a 14-year-old red dachshund weighing just over 19 lbs. He was surrendered by his previous owner and has been steadily coming out of his shell in foster care, where he’s discovered the simple pleasures of freedom, outdoor time, and human affection.

Environment

Roscoe is a classic couch potato who’s perfectly content with the low-key life. He’s making wonderful progress in his foster home—getting more interested in exploring, more comfortable with humans, and learning to trust again. He finds comfort in his cozy blanket when he needs to decompress. With a consistent routine, he’s reliably potty-trained and gives clear cues when he needs to go out. He’ll also use washable pee pads at night as backup. He’s loving his crate-free life and adores having a fenced yard to enjoy at his leisure. He’s interested in walks and is working on his leash skills. Roscoe does best with someone who’s home most of the time and can provide the steady companionship he needs to continue building his confidence. He’s quiet enough for shared walls.

Pets & People

Roscoe is a gentle, calm boy with people who just needs a little time to feel secure. Once he knows he’s safe, he becomes more comfortable and affectionate. He’s wonderfully peaceful with other dogs—no drama, no confrontation, just an easy-going guy who gets along with everyone. At mealtime, he’s polite and respectful, eating his own food and leaving others to finish theirs. When he’s uncertain about something, he’ll retreat to his safe space (usually under his blanket) until he feels ready to reengage.

Health

Roscoe manages age-related allergies and joint stiffness with glucosamine for mobility, fish oil for skin health, and occasional Benadryl when he’s scratchy. These simple supplements keep him comfortable and happy.

Location

Roscoe is available for adoption from Chocowinity, NC and he rides well in the car. He may be a little nervous at first but settles right down next to his human for the journey. Please email msbakeragc@gmail.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Roscoe is $250.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Go meet their pets

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
