My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SHY CAT SPECIAL - from now through Valentine's Day 2026, invite a SHY CAT home for just $20!

Considering adopting? The first step is to complete our online Adoption Application at http://forgetmenotshelter.org/applicationPlease do not call the shelter; do the application first.

Brie (female, orange tabby with some dark spots on her nose, tipped ear, shorter kinked tail), Colby (male, buff tabby, tipped ear, curly tail), and Camembert (female, orange tabby with tiny white spot on throat, full ear, normal tail) were born about 5/30/25, and came in as part of a feral colony on which we were doing Trap-Neuter-Return.

This trio transferred into our adoption program because, although they are shy, they are not mean like actual feral cats, AND their orange coloring makes them unsuitable for life back with the colony (orange and light colored cats in our area are, unfortunately, easy prey for our coyotes, eagles, and owls).

They have been coming along nicely with their socialization, though will still need calm, patient families who are willing to give them time to blossom at their own pace.

As you can see in the video, they are VERY treat motivated, and we'll send them out with some "starter Churus" to help you begin the bonding process.

Colby is the bravest, while the girls both retain more of the "stranger danger" instincts. Camembert enjoys the laser pointer most.

Here is more information on adopting a shy cat: https://anticruelty.org/pet-library/adopting-shy-cat

We give shy cats an extended 60-day trial adoption period, to give you extra time to bond.

All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for SHY CAT SPECIAL is a suggested minimum of $20 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts.

Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to the Seattle area, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!

Additional adoption info

Our minimum adoption donations are indicated on each pet's listing.

The first step toward adoption is to fill out the application, which we can email to you or you can find on our website:

http://forgetmenotshelter.org/Application

Filling out the application in no way commits you to adopting - it simply enables us to get you preapproved, in case you decide you want to adopt. If you are then approved and offered a pet placement, you may always refuse the placement. If you accept a placement, we always give you three days (for puppies and kittens) or thirty days (for adult dogs and cats) to live with each other; if during that time you decide that your new pet simply won't work out, for any reason, we will accept the pet back with a full refund of your adoption donation. You could either return the pet directly to us, or have it picked up on our next transport! I must say, we are very proud of our successful placement record - we really work hard to make sure you and your pet will be a great match.

If you are out of our immediate area, we ask that you email some photos of your home, yard (including fence if you have one), any "animal-specific" areas (such as a dog run, cat tree, or sleeping area) and any other pets you currently own. Sometimes photos enable us to skip the pre-adoption home visit, which can speed things up considerably for out of area adoptions! For the vet reference, either a vet who is seeing your current pets, or a vet who saw a former pet, is acceptable. If this is your first pet ever, congratulations on joining the pet world! :-D We will consider your application without a vet reference, but we would like to know what vet you think you will use for your pet. Without a vet reference, please be sure to provide at least two strong personal references who would know how you are with animals.

If we have an upcoming transport scheduled to your area, we will make every effort to process and approve your application in time for the transport.

Go meet their pets
