My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🥇 Meet 2 year old Joey — Olympic Gold Medalist in Ball Toss 🥇
(Joey is looking for his furever home -OR- a foster home until he is adopted)

JOEY WILL…
❤️ Steal your heart instantly
🎾 Bring you his ball (for hours)
🎾 Toss his ball to himself (also for hours)
📺 Watch TV with you like a tiny couch potato
🧠 Come when called
🪑 Sit on command
🚽 Mostly potty outside, only has an oops if his human forgets to take him out

ALL JOKES ASIDE...
Joey is a reactive dog, due to neglect in his previous life. SCFBR has invested in professional training, and Joey has made meaningful progress. His fosters are experienced in managing his reactivity and helping him feel safe and secure.
**SCFBR will provide seven private training sessions (in LA or Orange Counties) to assist with Joey's transition to his new home**

Joey bonds deeply with his person. That strong attachment can trigger the following behaviors:

Resource guarding: this applies to both his people & toys.

In his foster home, he has shown huge improvement and has even made dog friends—playing and wrestling happily. That said, he may still react when he feels overwhelmed or possessive. His person needs to understand, and recognize, Joey's behaviors and redirect appropriately.

Leash reactivity: On walks, Joey lunges at dogs, people, bikes, fast cars, and delivery trucks (anything moving—hence the elite ball skills). With calm handling, redirection, and consistency, his fosters are able to manage these reactions.

With time, love, and continued training, we expect Joey to continue to improve as he becomes more confident.

BEST HOME FOR JOEY
🏡 Ideally an only dog
👶 Children 13+
🚶 Backyard is a must, as are his daily walks

Joey is goofy, loving, intense, and loyal.
He needs someone who understands reactive dogs and is ready to be his person. In return, you get a devoted companion who lives for connection, routine, and—of course—ball.

If you’re looking for a project dog with a huge heart and even bigger personality, Joey just might be your gold medal match 🥇🐾
