My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I am a petite little Maltese (possible Maltipoo) with a cute little underbite. I weigh only 7 lbs, and I am a very energetic pup, always running and playing with my bff, Ted. My foster mom says we run the Indy 500 around the yard a few times a day. If we aren`t running, we are wrestling. I love to play with toys, and I am not aware of my small size. I will play with and stand up to any big dog or cat. No one scares me! I love to go on walks and sniff the environment around me.
Before AHF rescued me, I was not living in a good home. I had never seen a vet, and I had never been groomed. They had planned to use me for breeding. After we were running loose in the neighborhood, animal control picked us up, and we ended up in rescue. We needed to have our coats shaved down to our skin because we were so matted. Now I feel good, and my coat will grow back so nicely! I do need regular grooming, being the breed that I am. No more mats and tangles for me!
I am still working on house training. I already know how to use pee pads, but I`m doing much better going outside instead! I am crate trained, too. I am also a very loving lap dog. If you`re looking for constant company, I`m your girl! I am very active and need another active dog (it would be nice if it was Ted since we love each other so much).
BTW, if you adopt us both, our adoption fees will be reduced.

Our adoption shows are every Saturday from 11-2 at PetsMart stores in Schaumburg (1440 E Golf Rd) and Bloomingdale (162 S Gary Avenue) and Petco in Bloomingdale (412 W Army Trail Rd). We make every effort to have each one of our available animals at a show each weekend. The schedule can be found on our web site www.almosthomefoundation.org under Adopt and is updated the Friday evening prior to the Saturday show.

What is a Foster Home?
A foster home takes in one of our homeless animals rather than boarding them at the kennel and cares for it until we find a permanent loving home. Almost Home Foundation pays for the all animal's food and medical expenses. The foster home learns the animal's temperament and behaviors. The foster home learns if they get along with other animals. The foster home provides insights on the animals that helps Almost Home Foundation look for the right home for the animal.

We are a Rescue not a Shelter. This simply means we do not own a building where we house animals. We look for loving foster homes that will give temporary care and love on the animal’s journey to a permanent, loving home. When a foster home is not available, we will board the animal at a boarding kennel.

Our 5-year goal is to have a shelter. This is an aggressive goal that will take many donations and memberships. We will strive for this goal with a great team of volunteers and help from people like you! Please become a member, become a sponsor or make a donation.

Our animals are found strayed and brought in from the police. After being held for 7 days, we evaluate the temperament of the animal and determine if the animal is suitable to be a pet. On rare occasion, we will also rescue animals that are in desperate situations where the rescue makes the difference between life and death. We do not accept Owner Give-ups.
