My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you would like an application or have any questions, please send an email to us at:
info@ht-ac.org

Alex was rescued from the basement of an apartment building in Hartford, where she was abandoned by her owner who had nowhere to live. She is currently in a foster home in Glastonbury. Alex is a tripod and is missing her right hind leg. It doesn’t slow her down one bit, though! When not in a hurry, she mostly gets around with casual little hops, but she can put in short spurts of speed and has no problem jumping up to her favorite spot on the couch, as you can see in the video.

Alex is a very friendly kitty, and settles in after a pretty short adjustment. She absolutely lives for attention and deserves to be doted on and loved by her very own persons. This will be no hardship as she purrs like a diesel engine and she has super soft and plush fur. She just stares at you as you pet her, like she can’t believe she got so lucky that you’re in her life. She is quite talkative, and is very interested in you and your daily life. She also enjoys a little alone time in cozy pet beds or perched where she can stare out a window.

She has suffered some type of trauma in the past, and so now she shines best when in a calm, quiet environment. She’s also a little defensive when sharing space with other animals, and will likely be most successful as an only pet.

She is 2 years old, and has been spayed, vaccinated for rabies/distemper, microchipped, and tested negative for FIV/FeLV.

Meet the Pet

Approved applicants can make an appointment to meet available kitties in their foster homes or at an adoption event.

Additional adoption info

Anyone who is interested in adoption may send us an e-mail and request an application. We will process all applications that are received, and we will make a decision based on the applicant that is most suitable for any given pet, regardless of the order in which applications are received. We do not work on a first-come-first-served basis. We will make an appointment for approved applicants to pick up their new family members. All adopters are expected to sign an adoption contract and pay a fee to help defray medical and other expenses incurred. Shipping animals unaccompanied is unpredictable and very stressful for the animals. Hidden Treasures will NOT ship pets under any circumstances. Adopters will pick up their pets in person and transport them directly to their new home in an appropriately sized hard plastic pet carrier. If the pet is being transported by air, adopters are expected to bring the pet on board the plane. We reserve the right to deny applications for any reason.

More about this rescue

Hidden Treasures Adoption Center (HTAC) is a non-profit foster based cat rescue organization located in Kensington, Connecticut. Since our founding in 2004, the rescue has found homes for over 1,300 cats. The organization is sustained through adoption fees and donations. Our small all-volunteer staff takes no compensation and we have no overhead costs associated with a facility. All cats in our care are housed either by volunteer fosters associated with the rescue or at a Pet Supplies Plus store that generously offers their support.

The mission of Hidden Treasures Adoption Center is to:

*Rescue cats from situations that are abusive, unsafe, or neglectful.
*Provide necessary veterinary care.
*Provide foster homes for cats in our care.
*Place rescued cats into permanent adoptive homes best suited for the particular needs of each individual cat.
*Provide post-adoption services to help adopted cats settle into their new homes.
*Promote the importance of spaying/neutering domestic animals.
*Educate the public on how to help prevent animal cruelty.

Hidden Treasures Adoption Center is the trade name (also called a DBA or “doing business as”) for New Beginnings Cat Rescue CT, Inc. We are registered with the IRS as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We are also registered with the State of Connecticut as a public charity.
