Meet Barley, a roughly 5-year-old pitbull mix with a soul as soft as his name suggests. Though he’s mostly blind and currently heartworm-positive, this boy radiates warmth, joy, and an impressive amount of gusto. He may need a little extra guidance in life, but he gives back tenfold in love, trust, and tail wags.Barley is bravely working through his heartworm treatment, which includes a 60-day medication schedule and two injections to help him fully recover. During this time, he will be placed in a foster-to-adopt home so his new family can support him throughout his treatment and begin building a bond with him. Once his medical regimen is complete, he’ll be ready for his neuter surgery—and after that, he’ll officially be yours forever.Because of his visual impairment, Barley thrives in calm, predictable environments. He has done well with other dogs, but he’ll need companions who are respectful of his space and not overly energetic or intrusive. His experience with cats is unknown, so any introductions should be slow, thoughtful, and supervised to keep everyone safe and comfortable.Barley’s ideal home is one filled with patience, structure, and intentional care—people who can help him navigate safely as he learns his surroundings and who are committed to staying diligent with his medications. In return, he’ll offer unwavering loyalty, gentle affection, and the goofy joy that only a pittie mix can bring.Barley is the kind of dog who melts into your side the moment he knows he can trust you. He’s endlessly grateful for kindness, eager to please, and ready for a fresh start with people who will love him through both his challenges and his triumphs. His adoption fee is fully sponsored—we simply hope to find a loving family willing to give this sweet boy the chance at life he truly deserves. If you have the heart and patience to guide Barley through his healing and welcome him into a home of comfort and belonging, he’s ready to meet you. This brave, beautiful boy is searching for his forever family—could it be yours?
