My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Velcro is an incredibly sweet, affectionate little angel with a chirpy meow! This gorgeous ebony girl has glimmering gold eyes and a face that will steal your heart. She loves to head butt and rub up against you, asking for pets with her chirps. If your hand is a little out of reach, she’ll employ her signature hop up to greet you. When she gets love in return, she melts into the floor with her bottom up in the air (also known as “elevator butt”).

Velcro loves to be near her people. She regularly comes over to where her humans are lounging, chirps, and happily plops right down on or next to them, resting her chin in their lap. Velcro also loves batting around mouse toys, watching birds from the window, and putting her paws out to flatten herself like a pancake. She can be skittish at times and gets spooked by loud noises and sudden movements, but she’s getting braver by the day.

Velcro is also a very polite lady! She always uses her litter box properly, sticks to her scratching post, and seems pretty disinterested in plants/flowers. She’s easy peasy and would be a great addition to any family!

This cat can be adopted with a friend or as a single cat.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
