Mickey Mack has had a hard life. He was originally found running stray and taken in by Chihuahua Rescue. He was adopted. Unfortunately, the adopter overfed Mickey without taking off his smaller harness, so it cut into his skin as he got fatter. Then the adopter died. A neighbor took Mickey in but then passed him along to their granddaughter. The granddaughter ended up surrendering him back to the Rescue because she developed a serious illness.
In spite of being passed around, Mickey is a really sweet older gentleman. He has some healed scars from the harness, and a couple of spots that are still sensitive to touch. He's potty trained. With a tiny treat to tempt him, he will go into a crate.
Mickey loves to snuggle next to his person and walks well on a leash. He's still a bit heavier than he should be, but a feeding schedule with measured meals and regular walks will get him to his goal weight.

The inquiry isn't the same as an application. A complete application is needed to meet a pet.

Meet the Pet
Once the completed application is recieved and approved, the meeting is set up. You will be contacted by the foster for the pet.

Home Check
A home check is done either in person or remotely to assess the practicality of the home and environment for the pet you are interested in.

Pay Fee
The adoption fees for the pets range from $375 and up depending on the pet. We have 2 programs that offer a discount, for seniors & veterans
Additional adoption info
**If you are unable to pay the adoption fee ($375 and up), we are unable to place a dog in your care. Being unable to meet the financial obligations of pet care (recurrent or emergent) is one of many reasons why so many of these pets end up in rescue. It's not lack of love.**
We require an adoption application, and then we will check references. We also check with vets. If the person is not LOCAL then we will partner with a local animal control to complete a home visit.

Chihuahua Rescue Indiana Inc. is a non profit, all volunteer rescue working with Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes. The pets are housed in individual volunteer foster homes, not kennels or shelters until they are adopted permanently. We get to know our animals and therefore can tell the potential adopter what the traits of the animal are and what home would be the best for the pet.
