My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Joey was brought in by his previous owner on November 4, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Joey! Joey is a distinguished senior gentleman with a calm, classy vibe and the most polite little meows. He can be a bit shy at first, but give him some time and he'll warm up-then quietly scoot over to sit right next to you like he's always belonged there. Joey's meows are usually an important announcement: he either wants food, or he's campaigning for everyone to sit down beside him ASAP. He's also a pro at "just casually" reminding you it might be snack time-by lounging near his bowl or posting up by the food cabinet like a tiny, adorable receptionist. And here's Joey's signature quirk: even though he doesn't have teeth, he prefers dry food over wet food. Go figure-this boy knows what he likes. Once you've earned his trust, he'll be ready for pets and treats and might even claim your lap as prime real estate-just don't try to pick him up. Joey prefers to keep all four paws firmly on the ground, thank you very much. He's a mellow, sensitive cat looking for a relaxed, quiet home where naps are respected and the vibe stays peaceful. If you love soft blankets, calm evenings, and a loyal couch-side companion, Joey might be your perfect match. And don't forget to bring a cat carrier for a safe ride home!

Shy/Fearful Cat:Joey requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about them.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
