Meet the Divine Duo: Spirit & Phantom!
Two kittens who survived the unthinkable… and still greet the world with love, joy, and wonder.
Spirit and Phantom came to us after a heartbreaking ordeal. Originally adopted out through another rescue, their new owners tried for weeks to return them when one developed mild tummy trouble (likely just from a change in food) — but their calls went unanswered. In desperation, the pair was kept confined to a single small carrier, all day, every day. These babies sat in their own mess, fed only rice and chicken, and slowly wasted away. By the time they were finally surrendered at one of our PetSmart locations, Spirit and Phantom were severely malnourished — skin and bones — and, astonishingly, UNFIXED at seven months old (it’s a miracle Spirit wasn’t pregnant!).
But here’s where their story takes a beautiful turn.
Our amazing volunteers stepped up in an instant. One overheard the “adopters” attempting to return the cats to the store and immediately called us to rush in and save them. Another volunteer jumped into action and offered to foster them on the spot, nursing these fragile little souls back to health.
Even after everything they endured, Spirit lived up to her name the moment she arrived at her foster home. She leapt out of her kennel, tail high, ready to explore. Curious, bold, and bursting with energy, she proves every day just how resilient a little heart can be.
Phantom, the quieter soul, took a bit longer to trust — but oh, once he does? He melts into affection. He adores belly rubs, chin scratches, and gentle conversation. His soft eyes say everything: “Thank you for seeing me.”
Today, this divine duo has transformed into vibrant, joyful youngsters who delight in life’s simplest pleasures:
A cardboard box fortress
Bouncy spring toys
Their treasured picture window for bird & squirrel watching
Epic tag-team chases around the house
Wand toys with feathery “prey” that awaken Phantom’s inner hunter, while Spirit scales the cat tower like lightning to claim victory
They survived so much — and now they’re thriving, playful, and ready for a forever home where they will never again know fear or hunger.
Spirit & Phantom are bonded, brave, and utterly precious.
After nearly losing everything, they’re ready to fill a home with life, laughter, and endless affection.
