My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age: young adult
Sex: male
Species: red eared slider

Terrapin is a red eared slider, the most common type of pet turtle we see hear at Calgary Humane. But just like his namesakes, the fascinating terrapins (or water tortoises) terrapin is a really quite a cool guy and we hope you`ll stop and give him a second look. Terrapin was previously living in very poor conditions and he`s slowly starting to learn what it means to be a well cared for pet turtle - a properly cleaned, filtered and heated tank, a warm haul-out spot for basking under his heat lamp, and a varied diet of nutritious food. He`s still a young guy and has potential to live 20 years or more, so be prepared for a friend for life! If you also think red-eared sliders are super-cool, and you have a spacious tank (a turtle his size will need at least 120 gallons) to offer this cutie, then come visit Calgary Humane today to learn more or take him home!

More about this shelter

CONNECTING LIVES SINCE 1922

From our earliest beginning, Calgary Humane Society was more than a shelter. As Calgary’s first-established animal welfare organization, connecting the lives of animals and people while providing essential animal services to the community remains our central priority.

Today, Calgary Humane Society (CHS) shelters almost 5,000 homeless animals each year. In 1922 we set out to help as many animals as we can and we will continue to do so by fostering the values of respect, compassion, commitment, teamwork, integrity and innovation.

Our mission is to help as many animals as we can.

Our vision is using innovative strategies to lead, inspire, and educate in the humane treatment of companion animals, fostering an enlightened community that consistently demonstrates respect and compassion for all animals.

Our dream is a community where animals are valued, humanely treated, and live enriched lives.

Calgary Humane Society is committed to creating a better tomorrow through education and collaboration.
