Meet Handsome Chance!
Chance is a gorgeous 5-year-old, 78-lb German Shepherd/White Swiss Shepherd mix with a heart as big as his smile. He has a naturally loving, gentle disposition and has been cherished since he was just 5 weeks old. His owner named him âÂÂChanceâ because she knew he deserved exactly thatâÂÂa chance at a safe, happy, loving home.
Unfortunately, ChanceâÂÂs original owner had to relocate when her home was unexpectedly sold, and her new landlord refuses to allow German Shepherds due to their unfair reputation. (For the recordâÂÂChance is only dangerous to stuffed animals!)
â¤ï¸Â Personality & Temperament
Chance is a sweet, energetic boy who adores playtime, cuddles, and giving lots of kisses. Because he was separated from his dog mom a bit too early, heâÂÂs still youthful in some behaviorsâÂÂthink âÂÂbig puppy energyâ in the best way. HeâÂÂs sensitive, affectionate, and wants nothing more than to be close to his people.
HeâÂÂs currently staying with a friend of his owner, but the environment isnâÂÂt ideal for his sensitive nature or skin. HeâÂÂs experiencing an allergic flare-up from fleas in the yard, and his owner is actively treating both him and his lifelong big brother. Chance has always lived outdoors with other dogs, though his big brother sometimes pushes him aroundâÂÂChance, being the non-dominant sweetheart he is, just accepts it.
He may get along with other dogs, especially gentle or older ones, but because heâÂÂs not dominant, he can be easily bullied. He lived alongside a cat in his younger years and was friendly, though he hasnâÂÂt been around cats recently. With new people, he warms up quickly once heâÂÂs givenâÂÂwellâÂÂa chance.
And yes⦠he absolutely LOVES to cuddle.
ð¡ His Ideal Home
Chance would thrive in a home that understands âÂÂpuppy-likeâ behavior and can guide him with patience, kindness, and consistency. HeâÂÂd do great with:
ð¾ A calm, senior dog who doesnâÂÂt mind a playful younger companion
OR
ð¾ Being the only dogâÂÂso long as he has company and isnâÂÂt left alone for long stretches
A home with a spacious yard and lots of toys would make his day. Though he hasnâÂÂt lived indoors full-time in a while, he adores being inside and would flourish with a family willing to welcome him into their home. His original owner brought him inside to relax and hang out, and he loved every minute.
ð§ Training & Skills
Chance is:
âÂÂï¸Â Crate trained
âÂÂï¸Â Nearly leash trained
âÂÂï¸Â Working hard on keeping his âÂÂbig bear hugsâ to a minimum
HeâÂÂs incredibly smart and eager to learnâÂÂhe just needs someone patient enough to let him settle in, trust, and show his full potential.
ð¨âÂÂð©âÂÂð§âÂÂð¦ Great With Kids
Chance spent 5 years with his ownerâÂÂs children, including special-needs kids who were then ages 5, 12, and 13. He was gentle and loving with them, though sometimes needed reminders not to overwhelm the littlest ones with his enthusiastic hugs. He is dearly missed by all of them.
Chance is a happy, affectionate boy who deserves the perfect furever home and âÂÂhis person.â Could that be you?
