My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Animal ID: 946232 How this pet arrived:
Ash was brought in by a community member on November 7, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Ash-a striking gray stunner with big feelings and an even bigger presence. When he entered care, he showed intense, forward behavior, and he may show that again during major changes-like moving into a new home. The best way to help him settle is simple: give him a quiet starter room where he can decompress and get his bearings. Once Ash realizes the world isn't shifting under his paws, everything changes. The guarded boy melts into a playful, expressive cat whose personality explodes in the best way. With patience, predictable routines, and fun play to channel his energy, he becomes a bright, engaging companion who bonds deeply with his people. Ash isn't built for chaos-no busy households, no constant stream of visitors, no rowdy dogs, and no kid commotion. He thrives where life stays calm and steady. When it's time to take him home, bring a roomy top-loading carrier so he can travel safely and comfortably. Ash may start off bold and intense, but give him the right environment and he becomes unforgettable.

Shy/Fearful Cat:Ash requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about them.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
