My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

📍 Located in Webster City
Meet Denali 🐾

Denali is a breathtaking 5-year-old, 55-lb dark sable beauty with the gentlest soul and the biggest heart for her people. Though she’s deaf, this amazing girl doesn’t miss a beat—she communicates confidently through hand signals and is doing wonderfully with her vibrate collar training. She’s patient, eager to learn, and truly wants to make her humans proud.
Denali is a people dog through and through. She adores adults and is wonderful with children, even toddlers (ages 2 and 4!). She’s a classic “leaner” who loves being close—whether that means resting at your feet or sneaking into your lap for extra cuddles. Affection is her love language, and she happily soaks up every pet and snuggle you offer.
At home, Denali is a dream. She does great in her kennel and sleeps soundly through the night and while her foster is away. Because she can’t hear, she may startle awake at times, but the moment she realizes you’re there, she melts right back into her sweet, loving self. Watching her sleep so peacefully is truly heart-warming.
Denali has a medium energy level with the cutest bursts of clumsy zoomies when she’s excited, followed by calm, cozy relaxation time. She enjoys her walks (with a little pulling) and absolutely loves car rides. When parked, she may bark at passing people or cars—she’s convinced she’s in hot pursuit!
She can do well with certain dogs, especially calm and respectful ones, and introductions should be slow and thoughtful. She may always be dog-selective and can be kennel-reactive with nearby dogs. Cats are still an unknown.
One of Denali’s most adorable quirks? She needs a “security item” when she’s excited—whether it’s a toy, blanket, or her personal favorite: stealing shoes and proudly parading them outside. Her beloved flamingo stuffy is usually in tow, gently carried without a single tear.
Denali knows sit, stay, and come (all with hand signals), loves treats, does not resource guard with humans, and has the most trusting, open heart. She is sweet, affectionate, loyal, and deeply connected to her people.
If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will love you with her whole heart and bring joy to your life every single day, Denali might just be your girl 💕

More about this rescue

Founded in 2005, we are a volunteer home-based rescue group run by dedicated volunteers. Our dogs live in volunteer homes as family members with the same love, care and attention they would receive in an adoptive home.

We provide training, socialization, vet care and evaluation for all of the dogs in our care. All of our dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

GSDRI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization licensed by the state of Iowa.
