My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nellie’s story is one that stays with you. She is a six-year-old black Labrador mix, slender and soft, with a heart that has survived more loss than any dog should ever face. Three years ago, her world began to dim as her eyesight faded. And earlier this year, the one person she trusted completely—the one constant she had—passed away. Since then, Nellie has been trying her best to understand a world she can no longer see and no longer recognizes.

Yet through all of it, she remains a dog who still reaches for love.

In her foster home in Middle Tennessee, Nellie has learned to navigate the darkness with quiet bravery. She memorizes the corners of a room, finds her way to sunny spots on the floor, and follows the sound of her foster’s voice with a soft wag of her tail. When she senses you nearby, she leans her head gently against you—not pushing, not demanding, just hoping for connection. A hand resting on her back, a soft word spoken close to her ear… these moments are everything to her.

Nellie needs a home where the world finally slows down for her. A calm place with someone who understands that love doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful. She cannot share her space with other dogs or cats; the unpredictability is simply too overwhelming for a girl who now relies on sound and scent to feel safe. But with her humans, she is tender, polite, and grateful. She is perfectly house trained, never destructive, and content just to be nearby—quietly existing alongside the person who becomes her world.

Her foster can only keep her through December, and beyond that lies uncertainty. Nellie has already lost so much; the thought of her losing her safe place again is heartbreaking. She deserves someone who sees her not as a dog with limitations, but as a loyal soul waiting for her chance to belong again.

If you are someone who believes that love is an act of healing…
If you have space in your heart for a dog who will depend on your kindness…
If you feel called to give a very special girl the miracle she needs…

Then Nellie is waiting for you.

More about this rescue

We are a group of dedicated rescue people who want to save as many dogs and cats from the local shelters before they are euthanized. On the average....there are only 1 out of 10 animals that get adopted from a shelter. We are dedicated to helping increase pet adoptions by offering a shelter animal a foster home to go to while awaiting an adoptive family to find them. Won't you please adopt a shelter animal? Or won't you please help us foster a shelter animal while we are looking for their perfect home? What a gift you can give a dog or cat by giving them a place to feel safe and secure....a forever home or a foster home. Won't you help us at Critter Companion Rescue give them a chance to have a life?
