Demure The HSHC staff couldn`t have chosen a better name for me. Demure means I am reserved, modest, and shy. I am a grey, white, and buff tabby, 3-years-old, only 5.3 pounds, and I look like a six-month-old kitten! I have buff colored eyeliner around both eyes. A kind lady found me in early October in Noblesville and brought me to the HSHC. I was terrified of the people who were trying to examine and take care of me. I had never been around so many people before. It turns out I had an upper respiratory infection, conjunctivitis in both eyes, and was not spayed. Lucky for me, I was not pregnant! I did my darndest to avoid everyone who was just trying to help me. I even scratched one of them in a panicked attempt to escape the crate. These are all typical behaviors of stray cats. Whew! Now that I`ve been recovering and feeling better, I know this place is the best place to be. I am still a nervous Nelly when it comes to meeting people, but I am giving it the old college try. The interviewer lady (IL) has been attempting to meet with me, and yesterday I sniffed her finger. Yay! I tend to talk a lot when I want attention, but when she came close, I snuck back into the litter box room. When she placed her finger on the round doorway, I stuck my paw out to touch her. Baby steps! I know that with patience and care, I will learn to trust and love my forever owner. 12-2-25

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
