My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How Onyx arrived:
Onyx was brought in by their previous owner on 11/11/2025.

Why Onyx is the one for you:
Onyx is a sweet, loving dog who is looking for a special family to call her own. She thrives in a home where she's the one and only pet, as she's not comfortable around cats or other dogs. While she's lived with children in the past, Onyx does best in a calm, structured environment, and we recommend a home with kids over 8 years old due to her sensitivity and anxiety. She'll need a family who understands her unique needs, including supervision when outside-Onyx is quite the jumper and can clear a fence if given the chance! With some training and continued anxiety support, Onyx has the potential to blossom into a confident, happy companion. She's ready to build a deep, trusting bond with the right family who can offer her patience, love, and understanding.

At SDHS:
Onyx has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed . Onyx is now ready for their new home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
