My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

T-Bone came to the shelter as a very scared kitten. He immediately went into nose-boop training to help him build confidence. While he's made progress at kitten boop camp, he still needs some extra guidance and support in a new home. T-Bone is a shy guy who may choose to run from new people.

T-Bone has joined our Cactus Cat program to get extra guidance from volunteers on being brave and making friends with people! Cactus Cats tend to love other cats, so these guys may do well in a home with a social kitty friend.

I am a DHC, and I have my own webpage!

The adoption fee is waived for T-Bone and ALL Cactus Cats/Desperate Housecats!

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
