My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adorable Lucy arrived at AAS with a fractured pelvis. She moved to foster care to complete her recovery, and she’s now ready for her permanent home.

Lucy is very sweet, loves to cuddle, and is not afraid of strangers. She enjoys watching the world outside, and likes to hang out on the couch with her human and watch tv. She is playful and curious, but if you’re busy, she’ll sit calmly and not bother you.

Lucy is independent enough that she does well being at home by herself (and sometimes she likes her space). She’s the perfect companion for most households.

I am a DHC, and I have my own webpage!

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year.
