My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Get to know Xena......... a loving brindle babe!

Xena is very smart and quick learner with the help of treats. She knows sit, shake, down, and kisses. Treats and food are big motivators and help to distract her when necessary. She is low to medium energy and rarely barks.

Xena casually strolls on a leash, but does get excited when she sees squirrels and lizards. She doesn't seem bothered by passing people or other dogs at a distance. She understands "Let's go and This Way." Expect to see some zoomies in a backyard. She likes to chase soccer balls. She is also happy to sit outside with her human and people-watch.

Spending time with Xena inside - She is housetrained. She will self-entertain with toys of all kinds, not a picky girl. Give her a smoked beef bone with marrow, and she is the happiest dog. Loves, loves, loves belly rubs!!! She is at ease when being groomed (bath, nails, and ears).

Xena loves car rides and is an excellent passenger. She does not jump over seats in an SUV. She will alternate looking out the window and lying down.

Xena is a great catch! Check her out!

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
