Spud is a super cute young dog with wrinkles and a curly tail who looks like a Sharpei mixed with a large furry breed. He is a happy, friendly boy who loves to romp around the playyard, tossing around squeaky toys and chasing balls. Spud also entertains himself by jumping in the doggie pool and splashing around in the water. He is especially fun to watch enjoying playtime in the yard. Spud is sweet and affectionate and gently takes treats. He will make a great companion for an active person who enjoys quality time with a young, playful dog.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year.
