My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

All York wants in life is to be cuddled and snuggled and loved on - it's his very favorite activity! His whole booty wiggles with excitement when you give him even the smallest bit of affection. Sometimes he likes to fall asleep snuggled on top of his foster mom when they are both laying on the couch, his whole body sprawled out on top of her like the best blanket ever. At bedtime, he likes to burrow under the blankets next to his human.

Life in the shelter was really hard for York, but he transitioned with ease to the comforts of his foster home, and now it's time for him to make his final transition into his forever home before his time in foster comes to an end. He's got all the great qualities - house-trained, non-destructive when left alone, loves people, enjoys playing with other dogs, playful, good with kids, and oh-so-sweet. "Tender little muffin man" is how one of his volunteer besties describes him.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
