My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Chipperoni!

This 2-year-old Staffordshire Terrier is a lovable mix of zoomies, snuggles, and big-hearted goofiness. His foster mom calls him a total love monster—overflowing with affection, always ready to be by your side, and rocking a pair of big, soulful eyes that’ll absolutely steal your heart.

Chipperoni doesn’t just like walks—he lives for them. If he had it his way, he’d be out exploring for 25 hours a day (yes, he’d invent an extra hour just to squeeze in more adventures). The best part? He’s getting really good at loose-leash walking and making great progress every day.

He’s crate trained, housebroken, and thriving with a routine. Chipperoni gets along great with other dogs and currently lives with one in his foster home. He’s friendly and easygoing with other pups but would also be perfectly happy as the king of the castle soaking up all the love.

And the best news? Chipperoni has completed his heartworm treatment and is officially heartworm-free! He’s healthy, happy, and ready for his next big adventure—with you.

When he’s really excited, he breaks into his signature happy dance—spinning in joyful circles with pure enthusiasm. (It’s ridiculously cute.)

Chipperoni hasn’t lived full-time with kids but has had friendly interactions with older children (ages 8+) while out on walks. As always, slow and respectful introductions are key.

This Velcro pup just wants to be wherever you are. Whether you’re working from home, relaxing on the couch, or heading out to explore, he’s ready to be your loyal sidekick. If you’re looking for a sweet, silly, cuddle-loving best friend—with heart-melting eyes, zoomie bursts, and a happy dance that can brighten any day—Chipperoni is your guy.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older
