My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This handsome boy has a smile that lights up the whole shelter. Leon is sweet, kind and has the most gentle heart. He has become a volunteer favorite and is known for his easy-going nature.

He loves to take a nice long walk around campus. He is respectful and curious. Occasionally, he will roll on his back in the grass. This is when you know Leon is feeling confident and happy.

Leon also enjoys his time playing with toys in a play yard. He runs, jumps in the pool, rolls around in the dirt. He is an all-around happy, playful dog.

Leon has done very well on outings. He is a very good passenger in the car. You can feel his happiness as he relaxes. He enjoys exploring backyards with all the sights and sounds.

This handsome boy would make a wonderful addition to any family.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
