My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Muffin!

This sweet, gentle girl is the perfect mix of affectionate, loyal, and adventurous. She adores people of all ages (including toddlers!) and gets along wonderfully with other dogs—especially her two large lab foster siblings. While she hasn’t been cat-tested, she’s calm and respectful around everyone she meets.

Muffin is medium energy: she enjoys her walks, hikes, and backyard zoomies, then is content to nap and hang out quietly. She walks beautifully on a leash and loves to take in the sights and smells—especially during a neighborhood patrol (she takes her role as squirrel chaser and lawn-watering observer very seriously).

She’s happy to accompany you to pet stores, hiking trails, or a lazy day on the couch. At home, she likes being near you but isn’t clingy. She sleeps soundly through the night in her own space, but comes in for snuggles and kisses when the alarm goes off—especially to remind you it's breakfast time.

Muffin is house-trained, allows bathing and nail trims, and is very food motivated (favorites: apples, carrots, peanut butter, cheese—you name it!). While she was in rough shape when she arrived—underweight, untrained, and recovering from illness—she’s now healthy, spayed, vaccinated, and thriving.

She does have some separation anxiety, especially during long absences, and is on a daily med to help. She’s an angel when her person is home and does fine for short outings with the company of her dog friends. Muffin would do best with someone who’s home often—retired or working from home—who’s looking for a devoted companion to share their day with.

Muffin’s breed mix includes Australian Cattle Dog, Great Pyrenees, Pit Bull, German Shepherd, and “Supermutt”—a one-of-a-kind blend for a one-of-a-kind pup.

Her foster mom says: “If I could change my work schedule, I would adopt her in a heartbeat. She’s the most loving, loyal little dog I’ve ever met.”

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
