My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Virgil - our eligible bachelor with the most irresistible puppy-dog face! This sweet, bashful boy is just starting to come out of his shell, and he's showing us how much he wants to learn what life is like with a caring human companion.

Virgil arrived as a stray, so we're still discovering his true personality. We suspect he may have had a difficult past, and it takes him a little time to trust new people. But once he does, his playful side shines through. He loves to bounce around, play, and enjoy some good old-fashioned butt scritches!

Because we don't know much about his history, slow and thoughtful introductions to new family members-both two-legged and four-legged-are important. Virgil would thrive in a stable, quiet home where he's given the time and space to observe the world and try new things at his own pace. Treats won't be the key to his heart, but mutual respect and patience will.

If Virgil sounds like the perfect match for you, please fill out an adoption application using the link below. He can't wait to meet his new best friend!!

Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
