My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mater’s story started at a high-intake shelter we partner with, where his future was uncertain. Thankfully, he made his way to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton and now he’s ready for the fresh start he truly deserves. This handsome boy hasn’t let his past dim his bright spirit one bit — he greets each day with a wagging tail and an eager heart.

Mater is a playful, energetic pup who loves to be outside exploring the world around him. Whether he’s stretching his legs in the yard, sniffing out new adventures, or engaging in a fun game, he’s happiest when he has space to move and something to do. He can be a bit of a boundary tester at times — like many young, spirited dogs — but he’s been working hard on his training skills and is making great progress. With continued guidance and consistency in his new home, Mater is sure to blossom into a well-mannered companion.

Beyond his playful side, Mater is also incredibly sweet, silly, and loving. He enjoys affection and has a goofy personality that’s sure to keep his family smiling. With patience, structure, and plenty of love, this fun-loving boy will make a loyal and entertaining addition to a home ready to embrace all the joy he has to offer.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is proud to be a no-kill animal welfare agency. We are committed to finding great homes for great pets! As a 501(c)(3) nonproft, we receive no government funding and rely solely on donations from individuals, companies and grants to fund our programs and services. We are not affiliated with any other animal agency on a local, state or national level. Since 1902, our organization has been devoted to being a voice for the voiceless. Although we proudly find more than 2,000 animals forever homes every year, we are far more than an adoption center. We currently have a wide array of programs to support animals in our community. Through our high-volume spay and neuter clinic, we are able to help pet owners as well as battle cat overpopulation through Trap-Neuter-Return. Our humane society agents also work tirelessly to protect pets from cruel and neglectful circumstances through our Cruelty & Neglect Investigations Department. Through our Veterinary Hospital, we can provide top-quality access to veterinary care at a low cost to pet owners. In addition to our many programs, our organization is unique because we are the only agency in the community able to handle all types of animals. This includes cats and dogs but also rabbits, birds, farm animals, pocket pets and exotics. Our organization is committed to providing our community, our state and our region with support and care.
