George is estimated to be ~1.5yrs old and is 35lbs making him the perfect mid sized dog. He was rescued from an overcrowded Bay Area shelter where he was found cowering in the corner of his kennel.
Once in his foster home, it was clear that he had spent a lot of time outdoors in his young life. He was not used to common house noises but has really settled. He is fostered with 3 resident siblings from 70lbs to 7lbs. He does need slow monitored introductions, as every new dog is "suspect" and will take some time to warm up but has done great with the resident dogs and fellow fosters he has bunked with. He is medium energy and has a strong play style and does not back down easily if prompted. His favorite playtime is with his ~17lb foster sister who plays tough but is submissive. They will do a few wrestle or chase rounds then he will happily lay in his room or on the couch or even better snuggled against a human and then will watch tv for hours.
He loves to go for walks or short jogs around the neighborhood. When he sees new dogs or unfamiliar things outside he will freeze. There is no other reactivity, he just plays statue. He usually can be motivated by treats to continue along, the boy really loves food which makes him easily trainable. Maybe with time this would get better, but for now he is not a good candidate to go to doggy daycare, dog parks, etc.
George does have a heart murmur that was caused by a birth defect called Pulmonary Valve Stenosis which is a narrowed valve that causes restricted blood flow, George successfully had his Balloon Valvuloplasty procedure at UC Davis in October and is now in the mild range. Dogs in this range can live normal life spans.
George is now ready to find his forever home! His ideal home would be a patient adult only home where he can be walked on quiet non bustling streets, so the middle of the city would not work for him. He gets very excited for treats and walks and sometimes forgets his manners. He also does best in a calmer house as he doesn't like unpredictable movements or noises. He would be happy with another tolerant doggy sibling.
